Meet Our Panelists:
- The panel will be moderated by David Petrelli '05. A New England native, David moved to Music City in 2005. Since then, he has surrounded himself with music in every aspect of his professional life. As a piano player and vocalist, he has appeared on award-winning recordings such as the album, When You Can Fly from CCMA Artist and Songwriter of the Year, Victoria Banks. His vocal arrangements have been featured on the annual collegiate collection, BOCA (Best of College A Cappella) and he has won awards for his original a cappella compositions at various performance showcases. David spent 7 years as the National Event Director for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). During that time, he planned, organized and ran workshops and symposiums for the world’s largest not-for- profit songwriting company. He has emceed countless panels with #1 hit songwriters and interviewed some of the biggest names in music, including Richard Marx, Kenny Loggins, Jonathan Cain (Journey), John Oates and many more. More recently, David had a recurring role as the touring piano player for the Rayna James character (played by Connie Britton) on the ABC/CMT series, “Nashville”. He is now an elementary music teacher in East Nashville, where he lives with his wife and two young daughters.
- Our first panelist is Shantell Ogden '05. Shantell graduated with a Professional Music degree from Berklee College of Music in 2005. Since graduating, she has lived in Nashville where she maintains two active and successful careers: one in corporate marketing/communications leadership and one in music. As a marketer, she has worked in numerous tech start-ups and Fortune 500 companies like Nissan. Her music career consists of writing/recording her own award-winning Americana music, internationally touring, film/TV placements, and within the last few years music supervision for independent filmmakers. Shantell attributes her success to a work ethic learned growing up on a family farm and a deep appreciation for great storytelling - two things she uses daily in both careers. For more information, connect on LinkedIn or visit her website.
- Joining Shantell on the panel is Shane Adams '95. Shane, a songwriting influencer, producer, and author of The Singer-Songwriter’s Guide to Recordings in the Home Studio, is a founding instructor at BerkleeOnline and President of Artist Accelerator. Shane has received: two GRAMMY nominations (non self-nominated) as a Music Educator; THE HALLMAN AWARD (Tennessee Songwriters Association's highest honor); and the Country Music Hall of Fame's TOP TEN HITMAKER AWARD for co-developing the Taylor Swift Education Center's Words & Music and Songwriting 101 programs, where he is also a featured performer/writer. Shane's Quick Songwriting Tips on YouTube for BerkleeOnline have over 250,000 views.
